Kangaroo chair
The Kangaroo Chair, an emblem of sophistication, was originally conceived for the senior government officials of Chandigarh. Reflecting the city’s meticulous planning, it was envisioned that 30% of the total housing would cater to government officials, with the remaining available for public purchase. This vision gave rise to 13 distinct housing types, with the most prestigious sectors reserved for the highest-ranking officials. Over time, however, the Kangaroo Chair transcended its official origins, finding its way into private residences and becoming a symbol of timeless elegance. What truly sets the Kangaroo Chair apart is its striking Z-shaped legs, a bold design created by the unique “sandwiching” of its seat and backrest. This daring form extends seamlessly into the backrest, 92 embodying a sense of fluidity and strength. The chair’s wooden elements, more slender than those of other Chandigarh designs, contribute to its refined aesthetic, while the subtly curved backrest adds an element of comfort and grace.

As with all Chandigarh furniture, the seat and backrest are meticulously hand-woven from the finest cane, echoing the craftsmanship of the Office Chair. Indian Rosewood dowels are used to make the structure robust. True to tradition, no nails or screws are used in its construction. Instead, tenon and mortise unite the chair’s elements, ensuring not just durability but also an enduring connection to the artisanal heritage of its design.
