Lounge chair

During the creation of furniture for Chandigarh’s offices and residences, Pierre Jeanneret and his team of Indian architects explored numerous iterations of lounge chairs. Over time, one particular design captured the public’s admiration, becoming a favorite and seeing widespread production. Among its many applications, this chair found a prominent place at Panjab University, cementing its status as an enduring classic.

The design is defined by its iconic inverted V-shaped legs, elegantly supporting the armrests that rest atop them. Its structural ingenuity lies in its exceptional stability, achieved through meticulously crafted joineries that form a robust rectangular framework. The armrest seamlessly connects to the backrest, which in turn joins the seat. This continuous interplay—where the seat connects to the legs and the legs to the armrest—creates an unbroken loop of strength and elegance. Indian Rosewood dowels reinforce this structure, ensuring durability while exuding timeless charm..

Faithful to the craftsmanship of the originals, the chair employs finger joints in the seat and tenon-and-mortise joinery for the backrest. Both the seat and back are hand-woven with cane using traditional techniques, ensuring not just beauty but consistency with the highest standards of quality.

A quintessential piece for resting and unwinding, this lounge chair effortlessly graces both formal and informal settings—drawing rooms, lounge areas, and beyond—offering comfort and sophistication in equal measure.
