Office chair

Chandigarh, envisioned as an administrative hub, saw its earliest constructions shaped by the needs of governance. Among these, the government offices set the stage for a design legacy—the office Chair. Originally crafted for office desks, this iconic piece earned its name 84 through its utility and elegance.

The chair’s defining feature lies in its inverted V-shaped legs, which rise gracefully to merge with the armrest. This armrest, in turn, cradles the backrest in a manner that appears almost weightless, with the armrest serving as the sole connection between the backrest and the legs. The seat and backrest, artfully woven from India’s finest hand-peeled cane, exemplify craftsmanship at its purest. Each weave is meticulously completed by hand, showcasing an enduring dedication to detail. Framing these elements are wooden components joined through traditional finger joints—an homage to Indian craftsmanship. This method, as used in the original designs, forgoes nails and screws, preserving the integrity and timeless elegance of this celebrated piece.
