This curated walk traces the legacy of three pivotal collaborators in Chandigarh’s making—Pierre Jeanneret, Jane Drew & Maxwell Fry. It begins at the Pierre Jeanneret House, now a museum, offering insights into his minimalist design approach, sensitivity to materials, and enduring contributions to both architecture and furniture design. Through the residential lanes of Sector 5, the walk also highlights Jane Drew & Maxwell Fry’s role in shaping Chandigarh’s housing principles and neighbourhood structure. Along the way, privately commissioned residences by Jeanneret illustrate the refinement of modernist language in the city.
The journey culminates at Sukhna Lake, a civic and ecological intervention initially envisioned by P.L. Verma, Punjab’s visionary Chief Engineer, and later translated architecturally by Le Corbusier. Key structures include the Sukhna Bandstand, an experimental, sculptural pavilion by Jeanneret—defined by its bold geometry and surreal presence—and the Lake Club, a refined Corbusian expression that blurs boundaries between built and natural. Together, these spaces demonstrate how Chandigarh’s architectural language extends beyond function to engage leisure, landscape, and cultural imagination.
